Jennifer Buchanan is a Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) and received a GIS Certificate of Achievement. She has nearly 20 years of years of experience as a Water Resources Engineer and GIS Specialist. Buchanan specializes in stormwater and sustainability, inundation and emergency preparedness, and integrating GIS and CAD data with various Hydrologic and Hydraulic modeling software, including 1D/2D and CFD 3-D Modeling.
Buchanan has been involved with water resources planning and management, water distribution and stormwater management from the regional scale to site specific, including: planning, hydrology and hydraulics, design, maintenance, and watershed management. Buchanan is skilled in stormwater, water supply, water quality, water conservation and design, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, flood control analysis and modeling, advanced environmental and hydrologic GIS applications, data analysis, Excel and Access database management, and automation using Python and other scripting languages.
Her experience includes development of hydrology and planning studies, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, detention routing, environmental compliance, scour assessments, and FEMA CLOMR/LOMR Preparation. Key projects and demonstrations have been related to flood forecasting and emergency management, water supply/distribution, water resources flood control systems and facilities, dam inundation and PMF studies, levee certification, flood risk analysis, flood impact analysis, low impact development, water quality, environmental, and drainage studies.
