Abdulhameed Al-Ashwal

University of Sana'a
Remote Sensing and GIS Analyst
Sanaa, Yemen
My name is Abdulhameed. I am currently working as an assistant professor in physical geography and applications of GIS in the Geography and Geoinformatics Department, Sana'a University, Republic of Yemen. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Geography from Sana'a University, Yemen, and my MA and Ph.D.  in Geography from Pune University, India.

I have more than 13 years of experience in training and teaching GIS courses, I am Highly skilled in using ESRI’S company software (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Survey123), online, and offline and sharing maps, creating web map applications, dashboards and story maps. I have experience in building, processing, and managing spatial databases. As well as, Implementation of advanced spatial analyzes including spatial statistical and using weighted overlay analysis and modeling, as well as Processing and classifying satellite images and a strong background in fieldwork and data collection
.
During the past years of my work, I was responsible for teaching and training students and many employees in the government sector on designing high-quality and high-resolution maps of natural and human geographical phenomena using high-resolution satellite image data, aerial photos, field survey data, and various descriptive and statistical data related to the geographical locations. Besides, identifying and collecting spatial and non-spatial data sources required to create various digital geo-databases for implementing various projects and making different digital maps and layouts of maps, including the methods of geodata searching and getting data on the Internet from their original sources, compiling, arranging, organizing databases and summarizing them very accurately. In addition to, using scanners of different sizes, to convert paper maps and various engineering plans into digital maps and diagrams, and using geometric correction for them very accurately in the programs of the ESRI’s company including, digitization of the various phenomena of paper maps and engineering drawings using point, line, polygon and preparing the attribute tables associated with each phenomenon separately and processing of reviewing and examining this data and ensuring its integrity, absence of errors using the topology tool, to achieve ensuring the continued integrity to use geodata for the long term.

In addition to teaching postgraduate (Pre-master's and Pre-doctoral) students in advanced applications of GIS in physical geography, and supervising master's theses in GIS applications using the method of Analytical Hierarchy Process (Saaty method) and weighted overlay analysis and modeling in GIS environment. My strong experience allowed me to be highly skilled in GIS and work as a GIS consultant in the Urban Water Sanitation System Project Unit, Sana'a city, Yemen, for all funded projects by UNICEF, WB, and UNOPS, which are implemented through the (UWSSP) during 2019-2021.

My previous experience and skills are made my work meaningful, and flexible in time and place, I feel happy and energetic in most of my tasks and times, I always achieve most of my goals and learn many things at work, and get support, encouragement, and respect from all my students and co-workers
